From the plastic bottles recycled to make EverStrand™ carpet to the lumber salvaged for reclaimed hardwood, Mohawk is committed to eco-smart flooring options and successful energy-saving initiatives. Those efforts don't stop when it comes to laminate flooring. Each year, Mohawk laminate products keep 680 million pounds of material out of landfills by producing boards in the U.S. made of 75 percent pre-consumer recycled content.
In the U.S. facilities, Mohawk makes use of renewable, fast growing southern pine, and works with suppliers who plant six times more trees than they harvest - saving the unnecessary destruction of additional trees.
Realistically, when it's all said and done some waste is produced. But as an environmental steward, Mohawk finds ways to even reuse the waste. The laminate facility in Thomasville, N.C., converts the sawdust waste into fuel, and the leftover wood waste converts into bio-mass fuel for process heating.
