Ceramic Basics
Ceramic tile is categorized by the application the tile was designed for, either wall tile or floor tile. In today's market, ceramic tile is used for floors, countertops, and backsplashes.
Floor Tile: These tiles are more durable than wall tile and can withstand the impact of normal everyday foot traffic. They have a more textured surface compared to wall tile, which improves slip resistance and enhances the overall appearance of the floor. Portico by Mohawk offers floor tiles either glazed or unglazed, depending on personal style preference and what your design requires.
Wall Tile: Normally less durable than floor tile, wall tile comes with a high-gloss or semi-gloss glazed surface. As a result, this surface has a low slip resistance and can be slick when wet.
Floor & Wall Combinations: These tiles are color-coordinated floor and wall tiles that are usually used in kitchens (countertops, backsplashes and floors). You'll also find these combinations in bathrooms (showers, bathtubs and floors).
Countertop & Backsplash Combinations: These tiles are smaller floor or wall tiles. They are easily adapted to kitchen or bathtub backsplash styles, and kitchen or bathroom countertop designs.
